Many people hold differing beliefs about Paris. Some envision it will resemble scenes from movies, while others perceive it as excessively touristy and unclean. However, when you visit, Paris leaves a lasting imprint on you–good or bad. It’s not an easy city; its depth appears to reside beneath the surface of its attractions.
I had the fortune of working as a photographer in France for two years, which meant I could easily hop on a train to Paris whenever I desired. In fact, I’ve visited Paris more times than I have New York City. The first time I visited, I went alone. I discovered charming coffee shops, met up with friends, captured photos at Sacré-Cœur, strolled along the Seine during golden hour. I spent three hours in the reading room of Shakespeare and Company, accompanied by a resident cat, and ate pizza while watching the Eiffel Tower sparkle on the hour. My affection for Paris truly came to life as I watched people interacting with each other, falling in love, taking photos, enjoying their dreams coming true.
I knew I wanted to use my own experience in Paris to evoke wonder in others through photography, to share the profound romance I felt. So, when Jaimee contacted me about capturing their couple’s photos during their Parisian vacation, I was elated. I boarded the train from my home in Montpellier, France and met them outside Café Noir. From there, we wandered along the banks of the Seine, past the vendors, and up to the Eiffel Tower. We shared laughter, delved into deep conversations about faith and life, and bonded over our mutual passion for the art of photography. I was so excited to document their first time in Paris and to hear the ways they had fallen in love with the city. This first couple’s session in Paris is one that will remain etched in my memory forever.
